Sunday School Staff Appreciation Luncheon

Kimberly Sciscoe, pastor's wife of The Church Triumphant, Pasadena, Texas, asked me to do the decor for today's luncheon.  With around 45 in attendance, the room was set with white linens, black linen napkins and soft inspiring music.

We used items we already owned, only purchasing fresh Craspedia flowers.  We used hand made pottery, many of whom my artist sister, Judy Walston made.

The theme was molding children's lives as the potter and the clay.  We found the large print in the church decor room of a child, depicting the hurting, unloved and unwanted child that we must reach out to.

Entry Table:

Speakers:  Rev. Oliver and Vickie Oliver, absolutely amazing!!

Catering by Robinnette and Company.  Fabulous Steak Tips with Gravy, Steamed Rice, Steamed Fresh Carrots, Breads, Desserts:  Chocolate Cake, Carrot Cake, and an array of Cheese Cakes, Tea & Coffee.

This week-end of events began with a Children's Crusade on Friday evening.  This morning around 45 - 50 Children's Ministry workers, and Adult Teaching Staff members met for a session with the Olivers, then for this appreciation luncheon.  One final session followed after lunch.

The week-end will end with a final Crusade service at the  Church Triumphant, 1030 Strawberry Road, Pasadena, Texas.

Favorite Client...My Mother

Ten years ago Gary and I had the privilege to help my Mother when she moved into her new home in Alexandria, Louisiana painting and decorating.  Some spaces have been along overdue for some makeover love.  We were happy to squeeze in enough time on a recent visit to add a fresh touch to her bedroom.  Coupled with her beautiful bedroom set she already owned, we added a fresh coat of paint, bedding and used her existing accessories.

Our inspiration:  Macy's bed in a bag selection, featuring deep teal,
brown and a touch of deep peach.

Sherwin Williams' Sea Salt color proved to be the perfect palette for this space.

It was a great farewell to say good-bye to this border.  Removing it and adding paint from floor to ceiling made a huge difference in the feel of this space adding height.

We captured a few shots once removing all former decor, bedding, etc. and was playing around with some space planning ideas.

Already looking better with the border gone.

After:

The trunks in the before shot were never in room before but was looking for a home due to some other space changes.  We opted to trade them out for an old chest from the sewing room.

The blue vase was a new purchase...one of my favorites as it adds the punch of color needed
and I love the little sparkle it brings.

Final layering will include 2 more purchases after editing a recent shopping trip to Marshalls.  We purchased the one vase and plan to also get the pillow and yellow throw.  You can see the valance laying at the surface we brought to shop with.  Love the pillow!

The pillow will go in front of the shams on the bed and the throw across the bottom corner of the bed.

And, here is the happy client, my Mother.  Some of my shopping choices included a bit of rustic flare, but once getting to the bottom of my Mother's true style aesthetics, she loves the very classy traditional polished look, much like who she really is.  Again, your home indeed reflects you as a a person and should always be a part of you and make you feel "at home" in a space that is a reflection of you.

Here is something you may enjoy on HGTV's blog in reference to using botanical pillows.  Pic soon to follow with the purchases in this setting.

Review From Pearland Client

Thank you for sending this review to me to post on my site.  Sharing with my viewers:
Donna,
just wanted to thank you once more for the wonderful job you did on our living room!  The entire family is enjoying it...I did not think it was possible to come up with a design that both my husband and I would completely love - considering our very different tastes.  But you did it!!!
From the very beginning - you were VERY patient and accommodating and we really appreciate that...it was an extremely positive experience and we look forward to working with you again.
thanks
The entire Saenz Family

Pearland Living Room

We enjoyed working with Gladys and EC in their beautiful home.  This room had all the potential needed to fulfill the perfect space for this family.  Utilizing the stock pile of collected accessories and shopping for the right furniture and additional beautiful things, we came up with a room of their dreams.

Before:

After:

The empty niches were screaming for custom built ins.  Once done, they look as if they have been there forever.  We added the custom shelving and storage cabinets.
Before:

After:

This awkward little area was a bit of a challenge.  We decided on some vintage elements to give the space a touch of "what's in"  in 2012.
Before:
After:

Left wall space looked out of place until styled.
Before:

After:
Per client's choice, we have lots of furniture to occomodate entertaining,
giving guest adequate comfortable seating.

The Mantel was everything but the emphasis in the room.
Love the new art piece used now and the asymmetrical decor.

Before:

After:

A few masculine touches were chosen to design for both sexes.
The original art helped to pull in the color scheme.

A view from the second floor.

This was a fun day of shopping with our client.

Thank you Gladys and EC for allowing me to post photos of your new space!!

Review from Marilyn/ Galleria Area Condo Makeover

Thank you Marilyn for this review send via Facebook back message.

Donna, I just want you to know what a real pleasure it was to work with you while redecorating my 1st floor condo.  Your ideas were immediate and wonderful.  In addition, you were a very pleasant person to work with and went above and beyond your call of duty.
It was also a lot of fun the first night we went shopping.  I haven't enjoyed shopping that much in a long time. Can hardly wait until we can start on my second floor.  Marilyn

Review from Basin St. Station Party Decor

Thank you Missy for this review sent to me via email.

Donna,
You have out done yourself.  Everything was perfect; the colors and all of the personal touches made it all very special.  Even though we worked long distance on this project, you pulled everything together beyond what I could have imagined.  I loved everything you did in the design, but I think my favorite thing was the pillow covers;the fabric was amazing and I know how hard you worked on making each and every one.
You are so talented and we were blessed to have you decorate for a very special occasion.
Thank you for everything, we have memories to last forever!

Basin Street Station, New Orleans

The Venue, Basin Street Station is an antique train station, now a tourist stop on the first floor and a large banquet facility upstairs on the forth floor.

A view of the entrance level floor.

This is the 4th floor where our event took place.  Donna Madden/Decorating for the Senses did all of the decor for the celebration of Kenny's 50th birthday celebration with nearly 100 guests.
This shot is a generic from Basin Street Station.  I am hoping the professional photographer got a
good complete view shot of our work.

Our color scheme was black, white and gray.

A collection of antique cameras, crespedia (billy button) flowers for a pop of color shaped the theme for our decor selections.

The entire party was done long distance via internet, and many emails.  We acquired  a floor plan and worked with the venue's event planner to fine tune all details.

We customized throw pillows to be used on the outdoors patio area with special ordered fabric to scale to make our theme carry to the outdoors.

A settee was rented at a local New Orleans rental for our main focal point.

This shot was taken by the photographer.

This is a feature wall over the serving area...part of the venue's staple decor.  Love!

A great view of the city from the balcony.

Photos of Kenny "through the years" were featured on each table decor.

Thank you Kenny and Missy for allowing me to share photos of your event.  Kenny is my "little" brother.
Happy Birthday, Kenny!  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day!
